Electric Somerset
Taunton, the county town of Somerset was the first town to be lit by electric light. In 1881, Taunton the first electric street lighting was switched on.
‘Ye olde Jail’
Shepton Mallet which is located just south of the Mendip hills has England’s oldest prison still in use. The prison was first opened and ‘welcomed’ its first visitors in 1610.
